Environmental seismology and acoustics at the poles and in the ocean

Researcher Evgeny PODOLSKIYAssistant Professor

I am a geophysicist fascinated by the Cryosphere, its processes, its animal inhabitants, and the beauty of its intact nature. In particular, I am interested in observational and numerical studies of ice and cold regions via passive seismic and acoustic observations.

Most recently, I have been working at the interface between Glaciology and Seismology, trying to understand glacier dynamics through methods adapted from passive Seismology. Glaciogenic part of seismic wavefield remains one of the least explored areas of seismology, and I believe there are many
discoveries to be made, especially today in an era of global planetary changes. As part of this work, I am also listening in the ocean by using underwater sensors, which record not only sounds of ice, but vocalizations by such animals as whales and seals.

If you are interested to work on such interdisciplinary topics or have your own ideas to develop as a student or a postdoc, I will be glad to hear from you.
