Research Outline

Control engineering, a field of study that deals with methods to achieve desired system behavior, is indispensable for various systems around us, including airplanes and robots. Model-based control is a technique to design a control system based on a detailed mathematical model of a system to be controlled; this framework is widely studied and utilized since it can achieve high control performance in a systematic manner. However, if prior knowledge, i.e., mathematical model, of a system for controller design is inappropriate, model-based control easily cause performance deterioration and instability. Moreover, there are many systems which is difficult express as a feasible model for controller design due to its nonlinearity, high-dimensionality, uncertainty, and so on. We are working toward the establishment of a novel control theory that can provide high performance and strong robustness for systems that is too challenging to be handled by conventional methods.
