Research Outline

Industrialization and other developments have resulted in alarming increases in carbondioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere. In response, our research project focuses on carbon dioxide removal (CDR) technologies that utilize abundant natural resources, particularly (ultramafic) rocks, to sequester CO2 from the atmosphere in a technology called Enhanced Rock Weathering (ERW). Field trials and experiments are being carried out to develop ideal conditions of applying the technology on land, and in waterbodies such as rivers being treated for mine-related contamination, thereby simultaneously treating contaminated waste water and reducing atmospheric CO2, thereby solving one of the current major environmental problems.
